Whether you are an art lover or just looking to break up the white walls, abstract wall art will work in just about any home. As we start out in our young lives, decorating is usually one of the last things on our minds. However, this is a huge mistake because our home is one of the major things that people look at when they are trying to size us up.

The type of decor that is in a home says quite a bit about the person that lives inside of it. Walls that are empty and rooms with little furniture usually mean the person simply does not care or they have no plans on staying there very long. Either way, it is not the impression that you really want to give to friends or possibly even that special someone.

One feature of abstract art is that everyone can enjoy it. Even if they hate the piece, it will more than likely generate some type of feeling in them. Passion is passion and it is always a great way to get a conversation started. It is always fun to try and figure out just what the author was thinking when they created their piece.

This style of art is not limited as other forms of art are. There is not set model for creating a bust of someone or drawing a bowl of fruit. The artist can look at an image and let their mind wonder. Think of it as your daydream guiding your artistry. There is no right or wrong, it just is.

An added benefit of metal art is that it will not break the bank to get it up on your walls. Even with each piece being custom made, they are extremely affordable compared to other styles of art. Tim Herbst has a piece called Water that is the very essence of this. It is a silver framed piece that has a black rectangle featuring both green and an orange/red figure. The entire thing is swimming in a field of blue.

It immediately made me think of a lost fisherman. The blue was obviously the water, but from there I let my imagination run wild. I saw the green as life, the black as death and the orange/red as fisherman inside of survival suit. Would five or ten people out of a hundred people see the same thing? It is highly unlikely.

Abstract wall art is exactly that, abstract. You do not necessarily have to get it to like it. It is about imagination and getting away from the norm. There is one thing that you can be certain about. The next time friends come over, they will never say that you have boring walls again.

Tim Herbst is a metal artisan working out of Denver, CO who creates a paycheck producing his creations. If you want to check out a abstract wall art then look at his website. There are numerous metal wall art sculptures which may perhaps work for your interior decoration also.

How To Adorn Your Bedroom Using Lovely Bedding

Did you know that we spend about a third of our lives in bed? It’s absolutely true, so you can understand how important it is to our sleep and to our health, to have a good supportive mattress and comfortable sheets and linen to sleep on.

Let’s talk about linen and thread count. You’ve probably heard the term a time or two, so let me explain. Your bed sheets come in different grades of quality. The higher the thread count means your sheets have more threads per square inch, which of course means a tighter weave, therefore a better quality of fabric.

The higher the thread count also means a more lustrous and softer bed sheet, and of course more durable and less prone to shrinkage. Egyptian cotton is the King of cotton and this high quality fabric has extra long fiber that creates the superior durability and silky feel that one can’t help but notice. You can expect to find higher thread counts, from 300 to 400 even to 600 in luxury quality Egyptian sheets.

Pima or Suprima is another fine choice of long fiber staple, high thread count quality fabric. This fiber is grown in the American Southwest as the Egyptian fiber is grown along the Nile. It is certainly another luxury fabric high in thread count perhaps not as costly as its counterpart.

Percale sheets are more affordable and not as high in thread count. You can find percale in 100% cotton or 50/50 cotton and poly blends. The fabric is flat, smooth and closely woven and typically can be found in a thread count of’0 to 200.

Perhaps not as high end, but still a comfortable fabric and can be found in a 100% cotton or a 50/50 poly cotton blend.

Your mattress will be a big decision for you because you’ll find tons of different sizes, quality and thicknesses. First determine if you want a softer mattress or firmer mattress. It’s a personal preference and you’ll want to purchase the one that will accompany the two of you. Memory foam is popular but the user will find that it is a bit warmer than most. If you are one to kick off your covers all the time, this may not be right for you.

Also consider a mattress pad or cover when you purchase your mattress. This will protect your mattress from any sweat or stains which in turn will prolong the life of the mattress. Pillow-top mattresses are soft and warm, but a bit pricey. Some users say they are too soft and warm. Buying an extra thick pad for your mattress will definitely be cheaper than buying a pillow-top.

Don’t forget to choose a warm blanket or comforter to top the bedding for a warm and restful night. Choose your comforter like you would choose your thread count. This way you’ll get more years of comfort and enjoyment. You know what they say; you get what you pay for.

Decorative Paper Lanterns

Ancient paper lanterns find their roots in China and Japan. But presently, many people like them regardless of regional barriers and use them to decorate many events.

Chinese ornamental paper lanterns are generally placed on the ground or hung up after lighting them. These decorative lanterns vary in form and design. Traditionally these lanterns are white but they can now be seen in various colours. People use many lexis and maxims on lanterns to denote affections and send out messages. Generally, there are five types of Chinese paper lanterns in use now. The five groups are “tomato lights”, “Buddha gastronomy”, “crystal magic”, “baby’s bottom” and “rolling paper lanterns”.

Lanterns of the first category are typically used to decorate religious places on numerous occasions. Crystal magic lanterns live up to their name with bright illuminations and come in various different forms. The large, oval-shaped lanterns are the tomato lights. The colour used for this type is red while rolling paper lanterns remind us of the shape of large canisters.

The Japanese paper lanterns are usually circular in design, although other shapes are also available under the Japanese label. The typical colour is white, although red is also used.China and Japan use similarly varied colours for lanterns, hence there is hardly any difference in lantern design from one country to the other.

There is not much difference between Chinese and Japanese lanterns as many different colours are used in the making of both types. Unlike in the past, decorative paper lanterns are now used for many occasions and they come with various encouraging phrases on them as well. Since kanji is identical to Chinese letters, it is difficult to distinguish Chinese paper lanterns from Japanese.

Regardless of the festive season or festival, decorative lamps are now very common. Paper lanterns are able to increase happiness or peace of mind according to the occasion or festival in which they are used.

Paper Lanterns For Children

We all want our homes and gardens to be wonderfully decorated and to have great light sources. We can choose the color, the shape, and the type of paper in accordance with how much light we want to have. We can choose between two forms of lighting: electric with light bulbs or LEDs, or burning candles. We can also choose them according to where there is a suitable location for placement, hanging them out on the porch or putting them right on the floor as decorations.

We also have to think about the safety of children around paper lanterns when we decide whether they will be hung or placed on the floor. If the children are little, we will definitely buy electrical paper lanterns that we can hang.

Many parents have problems with their kids when they have to go to sleep because they are afraid of the dark and need a simple source of light. Paper lanterns for children provide a very soft light and are highly recommended for these cases. Before you install the paper lanterns into the child’s room, you need to find a space that your child cannot reach, the higher the better, as your child will obviously grow taller as he ages.

The best spot where you can place the paper lantern is somewhere up high, so the child won’t be able to reach it, thus keeping him safe from harm. Of course, he has to know about the necessary safety measures, in case he accidentally breaks the light bulb or if the paper is no longer attached to the lamp.

Paper lanterns are found in a large variety of colors and if you let your child pick something himself, he will love it without a doubt. He may be fond of a special patterned model, or he may pick something painted in his favorite color. He can choose more than one color with, several in combination creating a beautiful patterned design. If your kid is afraid of creatures that hide under the bed, you can buy a lantern with his favorite super hero so he will sleep peacefully. If you want to do something really special for your child, you can choose custom-imprinted paper lanterns. They are unique and your child will appreciate this.

If your children have reached a suitable age, they can engage in various artistic projects, developing important skills that will be used later in life. Not only will they learn how to use useful tools such as scissors, but they will also be instructed on how to cut paper and follow certain directions. Precautions have to be taken when children start making their own paper lanterns, as parents having the responsibility of watching over their safety.

Sizes For Paper Lanterns

We all have a room in our homes in which we feel most comfortable; in that space, adding a paper lantern that hints at far-away Asian lands only adds to the charming atmosphere. Whether or not you’re redecorating, the truth is that paper lanterns are tasteful touches to add, changing the appearance of any room. One of the most important things is to choose a paper lantern of the right size. At the same time, you will have to consider the perfect location for the paper lantern. You can place the paper lantern in room corners or right by the couch, but make sure the chosen type fits. Go with either square or round-shaped paper lanterns for a subtle light, taking all necessary precautions to obtain the right space.

Did you know that you can also make your own paper lanterns, creating the perfect decorations for a party? You will need some rice paper – 6” x 6” or 12” x 12” – and Christmas lights to complete the decoration. The paper must be folded to make small blocks, and then the lights inserted into them. Handmade paper lanterns are the best, especially when you know that they are the result of your work. These decorative objects will certainly meet your expectations, perfect for parties and other celebratory events; moreover, they are a fun project to undertake.

There are two things needed when decorating your home or garden with paper lanterns: originality and creativity. Think about the project and choose the right decorative objects. You may also want to discuss your project with an experienced designer, requesting his/her specialized assistance. You could ask for advice on selecting the colour of the paper lantern, the right size or how to put all these together for the desired result.

The role of a designer is to provide help when it comes to the selection of colours, sizes and combinations. Whether or not you decide to work with a designer, you will certainly be thankful for having thought about paper lanterns in the first place.

Selecting paper lantern sizes might seem like a difficult task, but the truth is that the only limits are set by your own imagination. Make a mental image of how you want the room to be decorated, picture some fitting shapes, think about shape and colour harmony and the size of the paper lanterns. While this may seem like a lot of work, you will certainly be pleased with how the project turned out.

Complicated? No chance. It just takes a drop of imagination and courage, and paper lanterns can help you create some really splendid arrangements.

Turning Your Garden Decor into Art

Many of us have gardens. We like our gardens but they’re usually there because they came with the house. Unlike those gardens in the United Kingdom or in Europe, our gardens don’t really serve a grand purpose but there’s no harm in listing them down for a home improvement project.

Though we don’t value these green places for the tea parties that we hold in them and though we do like a good, wide, and lush lawn for those barbecues that we love to have; there’s plenty to do to get a pretty garden. Now, there’s something that we sure do know how to do. We sure know how to make things pretty.

When your garden’s not so big and is situated before your front yard, its size isn’t going to be a major issue. You can still add something new to its look. If you want to add to its appeal, start out with a garden decor arrangement. A home improvement project for your garden is a productive and leisurely way to spend some of your free time.

Start making your decorative arrangement out of some stones with flat surfaces. You’re going to paint creatively on the faces of the stones. To paint on them, you can have a variety of themes. Here’s one theme with some design steps that you can follow.

You’re to use more than one stone for this example. Choose one of these thin stones, black or white in color, and begin working on it with the body of a bumblebee, in mind. Go on with painting this design until you’ve painted on enough stones to form a bee. After you’ve finished, arrange the stones in your garden like a lei of flowers. Begin at the right side of your garden’s grass until you’ve reached the left side.

The number of arrangements made of these painted stones depends on you. Keep in mind that they’re for your garden and not for your lawn or front yard. Use acrylic paints or spray dyes for this garden decor project. Remember to coat your stones over with varnish in order to seal the paint and protect it from rain.

Your design choices are endless. You can take this bumblebee idea and use it; or you could choose designs of flowers you love; or you could go for the more intricate patterns like marbled paint, kaleidoscope swirls, and psychedelic hearts. There’s an almost infinite list of possibilities for you, out there.

Let’s give you another design idea. Want your garden decor stone to be really eye-catching? Dress them up with photo transfers. There are shops which specialize in this. Find one that’s near you and tell them that you’d like them to print famous oil paintings on your stones. If you’d like to be lots more creative, print the photos of celebrities. You can also simply choose to print your favorite album pictures on these stones. Again, it’s all up to you and the theme you’ve chosen. You can even use this idea without having a specific theme in mind.

These photo transfers may not come cheap and are a little bit heavy on the pockets but think of how you’ll have a whole lot more to talk about with you neighbors, relatives, and other house guests, once you’ve finally set up your new garden decorations. Now, that’s priceless.

Interested in improving you garden decor, don’t forget the many possibilities of yard art christmas.

Experienced Interior Designers Can Help You Transform Your Interior Into A Beautiful Warm Space

Have you finally found your dream home and now wonder how you will incorporate the “WOW” factor into it? Well, like many people I’ve consulted with, your first step is to hire an Interior Designer.

Why is it necessary to consider hiring a professional Interior Designer? Simply, because most of us do not have the expertise or lack the skill that it takes to decorate and design. You could end up spending more money on costly mistakes.

An Interior Designer can take one simple idea and bring your design dreams to fruition. They will open up an entire world of art, color and style to you that you would have never thought or dreamed of.

So hiring the right Interior Designer is your next step. So how do you go about that? You should absolutely feel that your designer represents you to the best of their knowledge. How? They know how to listen to you as you share your desires and goals.

You see you won’t feel comfortable with all designers. Clients have shared with me in the past their frustrations with hiring the wrong designers. One common complaint is that some designers did not listen to them.

Before hiring any designer, I suggest that you go through an interviewing process. Sure it is known that you can interview ten designers and get ten different views and design concepts. But will you be comfortable with all ten designers? Probably not.

Of course personality types will shine through and one will be outstanding to you. You’ll want to choose the one you feel is on the “same page” as you. Select the designer who is clear on your desires and intentions and one you feel is truly listening to your every word.

You’ll also want to ask your designer about his or her design background, and projects they have completed. It’s really not about how many years they’ve been in business, but if they are confident and professional in their abilities.

Interior Designers are also a valuable resource because they partner with the best vendors to get the job done right. It’s just as important to know who to go to as well as who “not” to go to in the industry.

Landscapes of Artist Chuck Rosenthal

Though landscapes are not his most common subject for paintings, Chuck Rosenthal excels. From Clearwater, Florida, the artist more often paints people and still life, but his landscapes are definitely worth seeing.

A Rosenthal landscape could light up a room. The scenes he paints are areas that he knows well, distinctively Florida. A principal characteristic of his paintings is the radiant Florida sun – not seen directly but reflected with glowing oranges and yellows against the grasses, trees, water and buildings that decorate his landscapes.

One painting of a building shows a dignified Florida villa, in Bellaire Beach, we assume, since the title of the painting is “Bellaire Beach.” Not only the building and walls themselves reflect the sun, but also the wonderful landscaping of palms and perfectly cared for grass. The colors radiate warmth.

“Florida Waterworld” portrays Florida wetlands and a sprawling white house in the background. The painting is very inviting, although many people would not consider a boggy wetland inviting. The warmth of the reflected sunlight makes the water and flora look like an enjoyable afternoon.

“Houses on the Marshlands” is another Rosenthal landscape with shining yellows and oranges. Typical white Florida houses in the background make the sparkling marsh in the foreground stand out.

“Water’s Edge” shows a reflective lake, autumn trees and again, white houses in the background near the edge of the lake. The colors again mirror the sun. The composition of this painting puts forward the beauty of nature, leaving the creations of man (the houses) in the background.

Most viewers will not be able to ask the artist in person what thoughts inspired him to paint these landscapes. But perhaps we should appreciate that the artist is inviting us to contribute to the artwork by creating your own ideas of what the painting communicates.

What was inspiring to the artist can also inspire you, the viewer.

Chuck Rosenthal Art

Chuck Rosenthal’s well known still life paintings in oils and pastels do not eclipse his other work. Indeed, some of his landscapes and paintings of people in local scenes may outshine his still lifes.

Do you ever wonder what the artist himself has to say about art? Conveniently Mr. Rosenthal has left us an “artist’s statement.”

Artists willing to let us viewers know a little bit about their thoughts on art write an “artist’s statement” and Mr. Rosenthal has done just that. The artist says,

“I believe that truly Fine Art encompasses every aspect of the visual experience, from dramatic, or at least, interesting placement of the elements in the painting to the truest atmospheric values within the capability of the artist. All of this is intended to create an impact on the viewer that is so real as to provoke an emotional response. Strong contrasts of form and lighting are an important component.

“Looking at the long view of the development of western art one would see that there is a progression of stiff, awkward drawing gradually developing, over time, into the most sophisticated and articulate forms imaginable.

“Fortunately, traditional values in art are undergoing a revival in our time and I am greatly pleased to be a part of it.”

In 1963 Chuck Rosenthal set out to become a commercial artist. He studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City. He wanted to learn how to draw in order to do illustrations, but three months of study caused the idea of commercial art to go out the window and he decided to pursue fine art. Part of this decision was due to his teacher and mentor, Morton Roberts, who was an excellent illustrator and fine artist himself.

He received many awards while at the National Academy. He was given a scholarship and a few years later he received the Dr. Weller student prize for fine art. Another of his teachers, Daniel Greene, procured him a membership to the esteemed Salmagundi Club, the oldest arts and letters club in the US, where Mr. Rosenthal was awarded an honorable mention in their 1968 scholarship membership contest.

During the intervening years, Mr. Rosenthal painted off and on, learning, but unable to devote the kind of time necessary to achieving a career in fine art. Progress toward the possibility of achieving a career was further delayed by illnesses in the family over a period of about 15 years.

However, in recent years, since moving from New York to Clearwater, Florida, the goal of working as a fine artist has come to fruition. A pastel painting he did of a local landmark, the Clearwater Memorial Bridge, was purchased by a corporation and donated to the Clearwater City Hall. He’s won several awards since 2000, in Clearwater Fine Arts shows, and his paintings of the bridge was included in an international juries competition.

Park Place Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri exhibits Mr. Rosenthal’s paintings.
